SHOW YOUR GRATITUDE BY SERVING OTHERS AT THE ANNUAL THANKSGIVING LOVE FEAST

If you would like to show gratitude for your blessings by giving to others in need on Thanksgiving, there is still time to lend your helping hand to the 31st annual Thanksgiving Love Feast. The traditional meal of turkey, dressing and ‘all the fixings’ will be served on Thanksgiving Day from 11 am until 2 pm at the Rome Civic Center.

The Thanksgiving Love Feast is offered each year by the Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County to community members that are unable to prepare and enjoy their own Thanksgiving meal.  A father was motivated to create the event by his daughter.  Reverend Terrell Shields, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens, says that his daughter Terrica was shocked to learn (more than three decades ago) that some would not have anything to eat on Thanksgiving. She wanted her Daddy to do something to help. And the Thanksgiving Love Feast was born.  Both Terrica and (Shields’ other daughter) Cherish have helped out with the meal every year since.

Anyone who would like to share with others as a volunteer at this year’s Love Feast is welcome to do so, adds Shields.

Interested parties may sign up for a shift at the Love Feast by calling Shields at (706) 234-2091.  Financial contributions are now being accepted to offset the cost of the event; make your check payable to “Thanksgiving Love Feast” and send it to P.O. Box 161, Rome, Georgia 30161.

Donations of warm winter coats, hats and scarves will be accepted tonight at the Civic Center from 6 pm until 8 pm; these will be given to those in need at the Love Feast.  Desserts will also be accepted this evening.
