STATE LAWMAKERS PREPARE TO RESUME THEIR ’20 LEGISLATIVE SESSION – THE ONE THAT WAS HALTED BY CORONAVIRUS

State lawmakers are taking steps towards being able to reconvene under the Gold Dome in Atlanta to finish up their 2020 legislative session, which was halted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Katie Dempsey, who represents Georgia’s 13th District in the State House of Representatives, asserts that staff will begin returning to the State Capitol on June 1st. The House and Senate is slated to meet once again during the week of June 11-15.

It won’t be ‘business as usual’ when state lawmakers reconvene, as measures will be taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus, says Dempsey, who adds that lawmakers’ desks are not six feet apart.

The Georgia General Assembly is tasked with the challenge of balancing the state’s budget before this Fiscal Year ends on June 30th, adds Dempsey.

Budget cuts will be necessary due to the revenue decline which has resulted from the coronavirus outbreak. Dempsey anticipates that revenues will start to rebound now that more Georgians are back at work.
