BRIGHTER BIRTHDAYS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR SUMMER, GEORGIA DOE AND DPH RELEASE GUIDANCE FOR SCHOOLS TO SAFELY RETURN TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION THIS FALL

Brighter Birthdays, a local non-profit organization that helps underprivileged children have brighter birthdays, is in search of volunteers.

Cristin Warden, Executive Director, says that volunteers are needed to create and/or sign birthday cards, prepare party packs, and load up some backpacks with school supplies. Materials will be provided to each volunteer, who may complete these tasks at home. This is an ideal opportunity for students, small groups, or families who are in search of service projects for the summer, adds Warden.

Interested parties should reach out to Brighter Birthdays for more information by sending an email to [email protected] or private message via the organization’s Facebook page.

Warden states that plans are in the works for distribution of backpacks during the 2020-2021 school year.

Brighter Birthdays wrapped up the 2019-2020 school year, amid a shutdown due to the coronavirus, by distributing backpacks to local students primarily via a partnership with the YMCA of Rome and Floyd County and its nutrition program.

And speaking of the upcoming ’20-’21 school year – the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Department of Public Health officially released on Monday “Georgia’s K-12 Recovery Plan”, guidance for safely returning to in-person instruction in the fall.
