ATLANTA BRAVES CLOSE OUT ROAD TRIP WITH WIN OVER MIAMI MARLINS
The Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 yesterday afternoon in the finale of a four game series at Miami’s Marlins Park.
Freddy Garcia got the win in his first start for Atlanta after giving up just five hits and one run in six innings. Garcia, a two-time AL All-Star, joined the Braves roster on September 1st and had been serving as a relief pitcher prior to yesterday’s game. He filled in for rookie Alex Wood, who was given a chance to rest.
Freddie Freeman celebrated his 24th birthday with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, his 20th of the season.
Yesterday’s victory was a sweet end to a seven game road trip that started with the Braves’ being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies last week and resulted in a total of three wins and four losses. Their magic number to clinch the National League East is now six.
The Braves will be back home sweet home at Turner Field for a three game series against the San Diego Padres over the weekend. First pitch of tonight’s series opener is set for 7:35 pm. The game will not be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 as we will be broadcasting high school football featuring Darlington at Chattooga this evening.
