FALCONS DROP FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON TO CAROLINA PANTHERS

Written by Matt Davis on December 30, 2013. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2013 season came to an end with a heartbreaking loss to the Carolina Panthers 21-20 yesterday afternoon at the Georgia Dome.

The game was the final NFL outing for Falcons’ tight end Tony Gonzalez, who is now officially retired.  Family, friends and fans filled the Dome yesterday to pay tribute to Gonzalez and his stellar career.

Gonzalez spent 17 seasons playing in the NFL, with the last five of those as an Atlanta Falcon.

The Falcons actually had the lead throughout the majority of the first half of yesterday’s game, though the Panthers took the lead at the end of the half.  A back and forth battle between the teams resulted with the Panthers edging the Falcons.

With their win yesterday, Carolina clinched the NFC South and a first-round playoff bye.  Atlanta finishes what has been a predominantly tough 2013 season with four wins and twelve losses.
