FLOOD WARNINGS, WATCH IN EFFECT

Written by Matt Davis on May 5, 2013. Posted in News/Weather

A very rainy weekend has led to flood warnings and watches in the area.  The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for a portion of Northwest and West Central Georgia that remains in effect until 8 pm this evening.  The watch encompasses communities such as Rome, Calhoun, Cartersville and Carrollton.  Flood warnings are in effect for area waterways, including the Coosa River near Mayo Bar Lock and Dam (affecting Floyd County), the Armuchee Creek near Armuchee (affecting Floyd County) and the Oostanaula River (affecting Floyd and Gordon Counties).

The National Weather Service reported 1.32 inches of rain at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Armuchee from early Sunday morning thru early this morning.  The airport has gotten a total of 3.15 inches of rain since early Saturday morning.

Forecasters predict a 100 percent chance of showers today, falling to 80 percent tonight.  Daytime highs will be around 62 with overnight lows around 47.  Skies are expected to begin clearing up tomorrow.
