MOTHER OF SEVEN-YEAR-OLD CHARGED IN CHILD’S DEATH

The mother of a seven-year-old girl who died in a wreck on April 26th has been charged in the incident.  Tewanna Marie Atkins, age 34, was arrested yesterday on charges of homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, two counts of failure to use safety restraints for children, failure to maintain a lane and reckless driving.  Atkins turned herself into the Floyd County Jail and was released on bond. 

M’Kenzey Olivia Floyd, age seven, died when the car being driven by her mother crashed into a utility pole at the corner of Callahan and North Broad Streets.  Her younger brother, Kayden Floyd, was seriously injured in the incident.
