ATLANTA HAWKS LEFT WITH NARROW LOSS TO DENVER NUGGETS IN MILE HIGH CITY
In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks were narrowly defeated by the Denver Nuggets 118-117 in Denver, Colorado last night. The Hawks will close out their current six game road trip tonight in LA against the Clippers. Tip off is set for 10:30 pm.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL: SHORTER TO HOST LEE, BERRY TO HOST TRUETT MCCONNELL TODAY
College softball is on tap today for local teams. Shorter University’s Lady Hawks will host Southern States Athletic Conference rival Lee University in a double header at 4 pm. Berry College’s Lady Vikings will play their first home games of the season against Truett McConnell today. Their double header will get underway at 2 pm.
ROME FLOYD CERT MEMBERS TRAINED TO HELP OUT IN EMERGENCIES
Rome and Floyd County has certainly seen it’s share of crazy weather in the past year. The Rome Floyd CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is among those who are prepared to help in the event of an emergency, such as one related to weather. CERT Coordinator Vicki Wiles says that her group was not active in relief efforts following the EF-1 tornado that hit the Kingston Road area on February 22nd, but they certainly stayed busy after the F2 tornado that hit on December 22nd. She says that working as part of CERT raises awareness of the need to take action.
GREAT DAY IN THE SOUTH FOR RICK SANTORUM
It was election day for a couple of our neighboring Southern states yesterday. It was a good day in the South for Rick Santorum as he won yesterday’s presidential primaries in Alabama and Mississippi. Mitt Romney won caucuses in Hawaii and American Samoa. Romney remains in the lead where delegates are concerned.
ATLANTA BRAVES SETTLE FOR SPRING TRAINING TIE WITH FLORIDA MARLINS
The Atlanta Braves and the Florida Marlins played to a 2-2 tie yesterday in Spring Training action in Jupiter, Florida. The Braves will host the Washington Nationals this evening at 6:05 pm in Lake Buena Vista.
RAIN TO GIVE WAY TO WARMTH AS WEEK PROGRESSES
Those who ‘love a rainy night’ had to have enjoyed last night. The National Weather Service reports that a little bit more than a tenth of an inch of rain fell at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field in the Armuchee community overnight thru early this morning. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to taper off by this evening, but a slight chance of both will return for the latter part of the week. Warm temperatures will cover the area over the next few days. Highs today will be around 79 today and into the low 80s by the end of the week and into the weekend.

March Madness has arrived. Local men are invited to get their brackets ready and head to the Guys Night Out – NCAA Basketball “First Four” viewing party tonight at 6 pm at the City Club above Old Havana Cigar Company. The event is a fund-raiser for the Rome Symphony Orchestra.
