QUALIFYING FOR LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICES CONTINUES THRU FRIDAY AT NOON

Yesterday was the first day of qualifying for the July 31st primary election for local, state and federal offices.

All four incumbents for local nonpartisan posts that will be on the July 31st ballot qualified yesterday, including Rome Circuit Superior Court judges J. Bryant Durham Jr and John E. (Jack) Niedrach, Probate Court Judge Steve Burkhalter and Chief Magistrate Judge Gene Richardson.

In Floyd County Commission races, Republicans Rhonda Wallace and Nathan Roberts qualified for Post 1, and Republicans Larry Maxey and Jerry Lee qualified for Post 4.

Candidates also qualified yesterday to vie for their party’s nomination for offices in the November 6th general election.

Republican state and local parties qualified the following:  US Representative Tom Graves, David Doss for state Senate District 52, Eddie Lumsden for state House District 12, incumbent Katie Dempsey for state House District 13, incumbent Christian Coomer for state House District 14, Floyd County Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne and Floyd County Post 3 Commissioner Irwin Bagwell.

Democratic state and local parties qualified the following:  Rome Circuit District Attorney Leigh Patterson, state House District 12 Representative Barbara Massey Reece, Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter, Superior Court Clerk Barbara Penson, Everett Ballard for Floyd County School Board District 2 and Floyd County School Board District 5 incumbent George Bevels.

The qualifying period for local, state and federal races continues thru Friday (tomorrow) at noon.
