RIBBON CUTTING/DEDICATION HELD FOR EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER
The City of Rome and Floyd County held a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony yesterday for the new Rome/Floyd County Fire Department Administration and Fire Prevention Office and Emergency Management Office and Operations Center at 411 East 12th Street in Rome.
With tornado warnings and watches around the area, you could say the ribbon cutting for the Emergency Operations Center was a timely event. Rome Mayor Evie McNiece says that weather conditions such as the ones we had yesterday really emphasize the need for the state-of-the-art facility.
Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Scotty Hancock indicates that yesterday’s stormy weather provided on the job training, so to speak, for employees at the EOC.
Rome’s Assistant City Manager Sammy Rich states that the EOC is a joint project of the city and the county carried out thanks to those who voted in favor of the 2009 SPLOST.
Public tours of the new facility followed yesterday’s ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, which was delayed and moved indoors due to weather conditions.
Ground was broken for the new Rome/Floyd County Fire Department Administration and Fire Prevention Office and Emergency Management Office and Operations Center back in April 2011.
