SHORTER HOOPS: HAWKS CONTINUE HUNT FOR NATIONAL TITLE; LADY HAWKS’ TITLE QUEST ENDS

Written by Matt Davis on March 13, 2013. Posted in Sports

Opening day of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Championships is on the books.  The Shorter University men’s basketball team continues on to the semifinal round and the Lady Hawks’ hopes for a national title have been dashed after the first day of play in the tournament, which continues thru Saturday at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.

The fifth seeded Hawks cruised to a 101-89 victory over fourth seeded Mid America Christian in the men’s quarterfinals yesterday afternoon.  The Hawks’ quest for a national title will continue as they advance to the semifinal round against top seeded Fresno Pacific today at 3:30 pm.

The Shorter women, also fifth seeded, fell to No. 4 seed Southern Wesleyan 79-49 early yesterday morning in the women’s quarterfinals, thus ending the Lady Hawks’ hunt for a national title.  They’ll face Roberts Wesleyan in a consolation game today at noon with the hopes of placing fifth in the tourney.

Coverage of Shorter’s Hawks and Lady Hawks in the NCCAA tournaments is being provided by 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.
