TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF COLUMBIA SPACE SHUTTLE DISASTER IS TODAY
Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the Columbia space shuttle disaster that took the lives of seven astronauts. Tellus Museum marketing director Joe Schulman says the tragedy and two others in space history had anniversaries this week. The Challenger space shuttle explosion happened on January 28, 1986, and the Apollo 1 disaster happened on January 27, 1967.
The space shuttle Columbia disaster took place on February 1, 2003. The shuttle was returning to NASA’s Kennedy Space Station in Florida from a 16 day mission in space but never made it back.
