LATEST CORONAVIRUS, VACCINATION UPDATE FROM GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 1,793 new cases of coronavirus and 67 virus-related fatalities were reported in Georgia on Tuesday by the state Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 821,482 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 15,209. In Floyd County, there were 9,343 confirmed cases and 163 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 80,727, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,059.

As of the most recent update to the vaccine dashboard on Tuesday afternoon, 2,104,827 vaccines had been administered statewide; that includes 1,299,252 first doses and 805,575 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 34,286.

Governor Brian Kemp is scheduled to give an update on COVID-19 vaccine distribution this afternoon at the State Capitol in Atlanta, for which he will be joined by DPH Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey and Georgia Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency Director Chris Stallings. The report is set for 3:30 pm.
