The Atlanta Braves split a double header versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday to wrap up a three-game National League East set in Philadelphia, PA. The Phillies won the first outing by 5-4 and took the series. The Braves snapped a three-game losing skid with a 9-3 victory in the nightcap.
Highlights for the Braves in the opener included a solo home run from Sean Murphy and a game-tying RBI double by Michael Harris II during the eighth inning. Daysbel Hernandez ended up with the loss for Atlanta, whose starter AJ Smith-Shawver exited the game early due to injury. Jose Ruiz got the win and Jordan Romano was credited with the save for Philadelphia.
Ozzie Albies clubbed a two-run homer in a four-run inning for the Braves in game two. Austin Riley contributed a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning.
Chris Sale notched his 2,500th career strikeout during the sixth and was Atlanta’s winning pitcher in game two. He gave up just two hits, walked three, and struck out eight over six scoreless innings. Zack Wheeler was charged with the loss for Philadelphia.
Atlanta remains in third place of the NL East with a record of 26-29 for the 2025 regular season. Philadelphia leads the division at 36-20.
The Braves will return to Truist Park in Atlanta this evening to open up a six-game homestand with the first of three outings against the Boston Red Sox. The first pitch is slated for 7:15 pm.
