LOCALS HOST VETERANS DAY EVENTS

This is Veterans Day, a day to honor the men and women who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces.

A Veterans Day Parade will be hosted by the Exchange Club of Rome today at 9:30 am down Broad Street. All local veterans are invited to participate, according to organizer Bill King. The parade will begin near Synovus Bank. It will make its way down Broad Street to Myrtle Hill Cemetery, which will be the site of the American Legion Post 5’s Veterans Day Program beginning at 11 am. The program will take place beside the Grave of the Known World War 1 soldier Charles Graves. Chaplain David Thornton of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office will serve as the main speaker. Jenny Williams will sing the National Anthem. Dan Emerick and the Post 5 Honor Guard will perform Taps and the 21-gun salute. St. Mary’s 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will assist.
