RABIES VACCINATION CLINIC SET FOR SEPTEMBER 21ST

Floyd County Environmental Health will team up with Floyd County Animal Control (or PAWS) and local veterinarians to offer a rabies vaccination clinic for cats and dogs on Saturday, September 21st.  It will take place from 1 pm to 4 pm in the parking lot of the Floyd County Health Department, located at 16 East 12th Street in Rome.  The cost per vaccination is $10 – cash only.

Veterinarians from East Rome Animal Clinic, West Rome Animal Clinic and Mount Berry Animal Hospital will be on hand to administer rabies shots with the assistance of PAWS staff.

Shane Hendrix, Environmental Health Manager for the Floyd County Health Department, says that there are plenty of cats and dogs that are not vaccinated against rabies around the community.  Vaccination is imperative in prevention of rabies – and it’s state law.

Hendrix adds that as of September 1st, Floyd County has had two confirmed cases of animal rabies for this year – in a pair of raccoons.

For more information about the September 21st rabies vaccination clinic, call the Floyd County Environmental Health Office at (706) 295-6316.

All animals that are brought to the clinic must be healthy, at least 12 weeks of age and on a leash or in a pet carrier.
