DEMPSEY HEADS UP HOUSE STUDY COMMITTEE ON INFANT AND TODDLER SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH

State Representative Katie Dempsey has been tapped to serve as the chair of the new House Study Committee on Infant and Toddler Social and Emotional Health.  The committee was established in the 2019 legislative session by HR 421 to evaluate mental health services to include services which promote and provide treatment to best support babies and young children, as well as adults in their lives.

Committee members gathered for their first meeting last Thursday.  Dempsey indicates that their goal is to change the dynamic of mental health services in Georgia for very young children and families.  She adds that the years which span from age zero to three are significant in a child’s brain development.

The group has four more meetings at which Dempsey anticipates lawmakers will explore ‘profound findings’ and hopefully arrive at positive solutions for families statewide.

Katie Dempsey, a Republican from Rome, represents the 13th District in the Georgia House of Representatives.
