BRAVES DROP SERIES OPENER AT KC TO ROYALS

The NL East-champion Atlanta Braves fell to the Kansas City Royals 9-6 on Tuesday night in the opener of a brief two-game interleague series at Kansas City, marking the second straight loss for Atlanta.

It was a tough evening on the mound for Julio Teheran, who gave up six runs and six hits, walked one and struck out one in just two and a third innings of  work.  He surrendered five runs in the bottom of the third, including an RBI double to Bubba Starling that drove in three runs for the Royals, due in part to a throwing error by Brian McCann.

Teheran was charged with the loss for Atlanta.  Danny Duffy secured the win for Kansas City.

Highlights of the night for the Braves included a solo home run by Francisco Cervelli in the top of the fifth inning and a two-run shot from Ozzie Albies in the ninth.  On a down note, Ronald Acuna Jr. left the game in the third inning with tightness in his left hip.

The Braves’ series finale versus the Royals is slated for 8:15 pm Eastern this evening at Kauffman Stadium.  It will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM.  Air time is 7 pm.
