October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This observation is being spearheaded locally by the Hospitality House for Women, Inc. A number of events have been planned for this month to raise awareness of (and hopefully prevent) domestic violence.
Lynn Rousseau, Executive Director of Hospitality House, urges all Romans to register now for the 12th annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, set for Friday, October 25th. Registration is online at www.hospitalityhouseforwomen.org for this event at which gentlemen parade around downtown Rome in ladies’ footwear to show their support for victims of domestic violence. Rousseau adds that event sponsors are also sought.
DVAM events will additionally include a Candlelight Vigil on October 17th, the 4th annual Phoenix Fest on October 19th and Hospitality House’s Annual Meeting on October 28th.
