The holidays are near and so is the deadline to purchase poinsettias from the Junior Service League of Rome. Orders will be accepted until next Tuesday, November 19th for the JSL Poinsettia Sale.
Funds raised from the sale will benefit League4Learning, the organization’s effort to provide school supplies for local students in need around Rome and Floyd County. Some $16,000 worth of supplies were given to 2,500 students for the 2019-2020 school year with the proceeds of last year’s Poinsettia Sale, according to sale chairwoman Cameron Abney. Money is also contributed to local nonprofits that benefit women and children in the community.
Poinsettias may be purchased online at www.jslofrome.com or through a JSL member. There are three different sizes; six inch are $11, eight inch are $17, and 10 inch are $22. The poinsettias come in four different colors, including a new shade this year called ‘Picasso’. Red, pink and ivory are also available. Abney encourages the public to log on to the website and take a look at these vivid colors.
Customers may pick up their poinsettias at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds on either Friday, December 6th or on Saturday, December 7th; the hours are 8 am to 3 pm both days. Free delivery is offered on orders of $150 or more. Also, 50 percent of each order is tax-deductible.
Abney muses that she loves to be at the fairgrounds whenever the poinsettias are being pulled off the truck.
The JSL poinsettia provider is Alabama-based Dixie Green Growers, the lone provider of poinsettias for Walt Disney World and Sea World.
