SOME 55 MILLION AMERICANS EXPECTED TO TRAVEL FOR THIS THANKSGIVING, ACCORDING TO AAA

It is that time of year again – time for Thanksgiving travel!  AAA, The Auto Club Group, projects that 55 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home for Thanksgiving.  This will mark the second-highest travel volume since AAA began tracking numbers in 2000, second only to a record that was set back in 2005.  An additional 1.6 million people will go on a trip this year in comparison with last year, a 2.9 percent increase.

A strong economy, higher wages and increasing disposable income are sited as reasons for this increase in Thanksgiving travel.

Most travelers – more than 49.3 million – will reach their desired destinations by automobile.

Over 1.6 million Georgians will travel this Thanksgiving.  Most will arrive at their destinations by automobile.

Wednesday is anticipated to be the busiest travel day as commuters mix with travelers.

Orlando, Florida is once again ranked at No. 1 among the top 10 destinations for Thanksgiving travelers this year, based on AAA Travel bookings.
