FLOYD EMA JOINS IN THE STATEWIDE OBSERVANCE OF WINTER WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK

The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency has joined the statewide observance of Winter Weather Preparedness Week, which will continue until this Friday.  It is led by the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency with cooperation from the National Weather Service and the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Winter weather can be unpredictable in Georgia, and it is wise to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature sends our way.  Tim Herrington, the Director of the Floyd EMA, urges locals families to build a winter weather preparedness kit for their vehicles.  This just might come in handy in the event that a winter storm keeps motorists stuck in their cars for a long period of time. Herrington recalls “Snowmageddon” of 2014, which paralyzed traffic in some areas.

Learn what to include in this kit online at www.gema.georgia.gov.  And while you are at it, Herrington advises that you create winter weather preparedness kits for your home and office as well.

By the way, winter weather preparedness – there’s an app for that! Herrington encourages locals to download the Floyd EMA mobile app, available free of charge through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Each day of Winter Weather Preparedness Week has a different focus.  Today, the focus is Winter Weather Driving Tips/Safety.
