The quest for a Gold Ball, 2019 edition, begins today. The 66th annual Seven Hills Rotary/Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament will be held all this week on the campuses of Berry and Georgia Highlands Colleges. Local girls and boys’ high school basketball teams will compete for a coveted Gold Ball trophy in the tourney, which will culminate with the championship round this Thursday night at Berry’s Cage Center. Broadcast coverage will be provided this week by WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM.
Jeremy Stewart, Sports Editor for the Rome News-Tribune, indicates that the “Christmas Tournament” is one of the longest running tournaments of its kind in the state of Georgia. It is additionally the Seven Hills Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year; all proceeds go back into the community.
Admission is $6 per person; children ages five and under will be admitted for free. Games begin daily at 4 pm.
Today’s games at the Cage Center on the campus of Berry College will air on WLAQ. Listen on the radio, online at www.wlaq1410.com or via the TuneIn app on your mobile device.
