THINKING ABOUT GIVING A PET AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT?  CHECK WITH THE POTENTIAL RECIPIENT BEFORE YOU DO!

Have you been thinking about giving a pet to your loved one as a Christmas gift this year?  While surprises are nice, it is best to consult with the potential recipient before you head over to the animal shelter.

Jeff Mitchell, the Director of Floyd County’s Public Animal Welfare Services (PAWS), asserts that some people are not prepared to take care of pets.  That is why it is imperative that you know ahead of time that the recipient of such a gift is ready for the responsibility of a pet.  This is in keeping with the goal of PAWS to find forever homes for animals in need.

Many animals that are given as Christmas gifts end up returning to the shelter in January, adds Mitchell.

If your loved one is ready for the responsibility of a pet, Mitchell encourages you to check out the animals that are ready for adoption at PAWS, located at 99 North Avenue in Rome. Get more information by calling (706) 236-4537 or via the Public Animal Welfare Services page on Facebook.
