AAA:  GAS PRICES ROSE SLIGHTLY OVER THE PAST WEEK

Gas prices in Georgia have increased slightly over the past week, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which reports that motorists across the state are now paying an average of $2.42 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline.  That price is four cents more than a week ago, three cents less than a month ago and 33 cents more than this time last year.

It currently costs $36.30 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline.  That’s $6.30 less than what motorists paid in May 2018, when pump prices hit last year’s peak of $2.84 per gallon.

AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters states, “AAA forecasts that 104 million Americans will travel by car, the most on record, for a year-end holiday.  The substantial number of motorists has caused some state averages to increase heading into the holiday week, but these jumps aren’t big and won’t last long or linger past the holiday season.”

Sunday’s national average was $2.57, three cents more than last week and a cent less than last month. The price is noticably less expensive in comparison to last year’s holidays, by 21 cents – this provides some relief at the pump for year-end travelers.
