Law enforcement will be out in force as we exit 2019 and usher in 2020. The 30-hour New Year’s holiday period begins tonight at 6 pm and continues until 11:59 pm on Wednesday night, according to the designation from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
If you need a safe way home from your New Year’s Eve festivities and failed to plan in advance, take advantage of AAA’s Tow to Go program. Those who do will be provided a confidential ride within a 10 mile radius; the driver and the vehicle will both be transported home by a AAA tow truck. Tow to Go is available now until Thursday, January 2nd at 6 am by calling (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.
New Years is the deadliest holiday on roadways across the US. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 1,000 people lost their lives in traffic crashes during a three-day holiday period in 2017. Thirty-one percent of those deaths involved drunk drivers.
