Next week, February 3rd through 7th, is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia. The observance is led by the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the National Weather Service. Its purpose is to educate Georgians on the threat of severe weather.
Tim Herrington, the Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, asserts that locals should remain vigilant this winter as the weather conditions in this area can be (and often are) unpredictable.
Each day next week will focus on a different severe weather threat and how to prepare for each. Here’s the daily list:
- Monday: Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio
- Tuesday: Thunderstorm Safety
- Wednesday: Tornado Safety; the statewide tornado drill is scheduled for that morning at 9 am.
- Thursday: Lightning Safety
- Friday: Flash Flooding/Flood Safety (This is also the alternate date for the statewide tornado drill.)
And severe weather preparedness – there’s an app for that! Herrington urges the public to download the Floyd EMA mobile app from Apple’s App Store or Google Play; it is free of charge. Preparedness tips are also available online at www.romefloyd.com and www.ready.gov.
