IT’S SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK IN GEORGIA!

It is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia! The observance is being spearheaded by the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the National Weather Service.

Each day of the week is focused on a different severe weather threat and how to prepare. Here’s the daily list:

  • Monday: Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio
  • Tuesday: Thunderstorm Safety
  • Wednesday: Tornado Safety; the statewide tornado drill is scheduled for that morning at 9 am.
  • Thursday: Lightning Safety
  • Friday: Flash Flooding/Flood Safety (This is also the alternate date for the statewide tornado drill.)

Tim Herrington, the Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, says that locals can get updates on severe weather developing in our area by signing up for the county’s CodeRED weather alert system. This may be accomplished via the Floyd County EMA mobile app. The app is available free of charge through Google Play or the Apple App Store.
