FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIR SUPPORTS AN UPDATE TO THE UNIFIED LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE

Floyd County Commission Chair Scotty Hancock supports a proposal by the newly minted Rome City Commissioner Mark Cochran to update the Unified Land Development Code (or ULDC).

Hancock indicates that after hearing more about Cochran’s proposal during a joint session of both commissions last week, he agrees that some changes are needed to update the 20-year old code to ensure growth and development for Rome and Floyd County.

The Rome-Floyd Planning Department has been working to fulfill a request from city and county officials to make the ULDC more accessible. Hancock asserts that this is necessary to allow for free enterprise. He adds that the city and county must work together to change what they can.

A subcommittee has been formed to further explore the matter, says Hancock, who also states that a determination must be made as to whether the overhaul of the ULDC can be handled internally or if assistance from a consultant will be needed.
