FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL HEART MONTH

February is observed every year as National Heart Month. It is a time to take care of your heart and be aware of your risk for heart disease.

Dr. Chas Jackson, cardiologist with Harbin Clinic, asserts that the purpose of the observance by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology is ultimately prevention.

One way to keep your heart healthy is to exercise regularly, says Dr. Jackson. You do not have to join a gym to get exercise. Go for a walk! If it is raining outside, just take a walk inside the mall.

Heart disease and heart-related illnesses are the leading causes of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, nearly 647,000 people nationwide die of heart disease annually, one in every four deaths.
