LATEST COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

There are currently 31 confirmed or presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in 12 counties around Georgia, according to the Department of Public Health.

Confirmatory testing is awaited from the CDC on three new new presumptive positive cases of COVID-19. Two are residents of DeKalb County; each of them are hospitalized and the sources of their infection are unknown. There is no connection between those two cases. The third individual is a resident of Lowndes County and is hospitalized; the source of infection is also unknown in that case.

There are six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. One individual is a resident of Lee County and is hospitalized; the source of infection is not known. One individual is a resident of Cobb County and is hospitalized; that person has a history of travel outside of the US. One individual is from Floyd County and is hospitalized; the source of infection is unknown. Three of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 are in Bartow County; two of the individuals are hospitalized and the sources of the infections are currently unknown. The third individual is not hospitalized; while the source of infection isn’t known, this person does have a connection with the individual from Floyd County.

There are now a total of 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 around this state – three in Fulton, two in Floyd, one in Polk, two in Cobb, three in Bartow, and one in Lee.

The number of presumptive positive COVID-19 cases stands at 19 – three in Fulton, six in Cobb, one in Fayette, four in DeKalb, two in Gwinnett, one in Cherokee, one in Charlton and one in Lowndes.

Floyd County Schools are closed today and Friday after an employee tested positive for coronavirus. Employees, aside from custodians and central office staff, are not to report. These two days had already been scheduled as student holidays. All parent-teacher conferences that had been scheduled for the next couple of days have been cancelled. The COVID-19 case was reported in the Cave Spring Elementary School district.
