PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS HAS LED TO SIGNIFICANT UPTICK IN UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS

Georgia businesses have taken a significant hit from the coronavirus public health crisis.

The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that 133,820 unemployment claims were filed during the week of March 22nd through 28th. That marks the highest number of claims ever processed in a week and represents an increase of 1,102 percent over the week prior.

The labor department dispersed $14,563,575 in unemployment benefits to a total of 64,022 Georgians for the week ending March 28th.

Unemployment claims throughout the United States rose by 101 percent last week to 6.6 million.
