AAA: COVID-19 CONTINUES TO IMPACT GEORGIA’S GAS PRICES

COVID-19 continues to impact Georgia’s gas prices, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group. Motorists across the state are now paying an average price of $1.77 per gallon of regular unleaded. That’s eight cents less than last week, 46 cents less than last month, and 84 cents less than this time last year.

It now costs $26.55 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline; that’s $14.55 less than what motorists paid in April of 2019, when pump prices hit last year’s peak of $2.74 per gallon.

Montrae Waiters, AAA Spokesperson, says, “AAA expects gas prices to keep dropping, as cheap crude combines with the realities of people staying home and less demand for gas.”

As of Sunday, motorists could find gas for $1.99 or less a gallon at 68 percent of the gas stations in the country.

The demand for gasoline has not been this low since 1993, as revealed by the Energy Information Administration’s historical gas demand data. Demand is expected to continue declining as more Americans practice social distancing, which will push pump prices cheaper.

Sunday’s national average of $1.93 a gallon of regular unleaded is nine cents less than a week ago, 47 cents less than last month, and 79 cents less than last year.
