RCS SUPERINTENDENT ADDRESSES ABRUPT END TO 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

Rome City Schools Superintendent Louis Byars has sent a letter to parents and students that addresses the abrupt end to the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19. In the letter, he announced that Rome High’s prom has been cancelled, along with summer camps through June 30th.

Byars had this to say to the members of the Class of 2020, β€œI am sorry your time in the Rome City Schools will end this way. I know it seems unfair and it is. However, overcoming challenges is what your class has always had to do. You were born just after the terroristic attacks of 9/11 and represent the generation of hope. You have always demonstrated the ability to overcome.”

Byars additionally assured the seniors, β€œAt this time, I can assure you that we will do what we can to safely provide you a graduation program.”
