The Georgia Department of Labor processed more unemployment claims last week than were processed during the entire year 2019. According to a media release by the GDOL, 390,132 UI claims were processed during the week of March 29th through April 4th, over three times what was processed during the week prior. Initial unemployment claims throughout the US remained steady at 6.6 million.
The GDOL issued payments of $41,786,386 in unemployment benefits to a total of 168,319 Georgians last week. A majority of the claims were filed by individuals from the accommodation and food service industries.
