Local leaders have been proactive in the battle against the community spread of coronavirus, asserts Scotty Hancock, Chairman of the Floyd County Board of Commissioners. Governor Brian Kemp’s announcement last week that he has extended the statewide shelter in place through April 30th preempted any plans by Floyd County and City of Rome officials to take additional action in order to protect local residents from the virus.
Hancock encourages all area residents to comply with the statewide shelter in place order to help ‘flatten that curve’.
County Commissioners will meet virtually via the Zoom app on Tuesday. A caucus session will be held at 5:30 pm; that will be followed by their meeting at 6 pm, according to the schedule by the Floyd County Clerk’s Office. These will be streamed live on Facebook.
Hancock adds that modern technology has allowed Commissioners to receive more feedback from the public. Apps like Zoom and Facebook might change the way that Commissioners interact with residents (once we get on the other side of this pandemic).

The City of Rome’s Board of Commissioners will hold a virtual meeting via Zoom tonight at 6:30 pm. It will also be streamed live on the City of Rome, GA’s Facebook page.
