AIR SHOWS MAY BE HALTED AT THE MOMENT DUE TO COVID-19, BUT WINGS OVER NORTH GEORGIA EXPECTED TO RETURN THIS FALL

The coronavirus is not anticipated to keep the Wings Over North Georgia air show from going on as planned this fall. The show is scheduled for October 24th and 25th at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport. The United States Air Force Thunderbirds are the headliners.

Air shows across the country have been cancelled for this spring and into the summer. However, things look hopeful (at this point) for the fall, states John Cowman, President of JLC Airshow Management.

Cowman anticipates that air shows will resume in the middle of this summer, around the Fourth of July.

The Thunderbirds and the US Navy Blue Angels have joined forces to honor healthcare workers and others on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19 with America Strong, a flyover of major US cities that have been hit hard by the virus. The first flight took place on Tuesday afternoon over New York City and Philadelphia, along with Newark and Trenton, New Jersey. Cowman asserts that in addition to serving as an encouragement to our hurting nation, these flyovers provide the fighter pilots with an opportunity to execute flight hours in order to maintain proficiency.

Some parts of America Strong will feature only the Thunderbirds or the Blue Angels, while others will feature both teams. The flyovers will not incur any additional cost to taxpayers, according to the Department of Defense.

Both teams will participate in the America Strong flight over Atlanta; details are to be announced.

Tickets are available for the 2020 Wings Over North Georgia air show online at www.wingsovernorthgeorgia.com, according to Cowman. Updates will be posted to their social media outlets.
