RED CROSS REMAINS POISED TO HELP THOSE IN NEED AMID THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

COVID-19 has significantly impacted the way that the American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia delivers its services; however, the organization remains poised to help people in their time of need. Leigh Barba, Executive Director, encourages all Northwest Georgians to call 1-800-RED CROSS or check out the website at www.redcross.org if you need help or want to help out.

Barba adds that volunteers were very eager to provide assistance and comfort to those affected by the severe storms which hit our region on Easter Sunday, but social distancing prevented any sort of close contact. She asserts that the best way to help disaster victims at this time is to submit a monetary donation to the Red Cross. Donors may mail their checks to the Red Cross of NWGA at 112 John Maddox Drive, Rome, Georgia 30165. Barba says that donations are very much needed, as the cost to respond to disasters has increased.

Blood donations are also sought, as well as plasma donations from those who have recovered from coronavirus. Antibodies in that plasma could be used to help those with serious or life-threatening coronavirus infections. To register to donate, Barba says to visit www.redcrossblood.org.

The American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia now serves 15 counties. For more information, visit the Red Cross website.
