IN-PERSON LEPRECHAUN-A-THON MAY HAVE BEEN CANCELLED IN MID-MARCH, BUT RUNNERS/WALKERS MAY NOW PARTICIPATE IN VIRTUAL EVENT

The coronavirus outbreak prevented Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation and the Harbin Clinic from hosting the annual Leprechaun-A-Thon back in mid-March as originally planned. The community is now invited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in May via participation in the virtual Leprechaun-A-Thon 5K and Shamwalk, according to an RFPR media release.

The virtual Leprechaun-A-Thon is a family-friendly event which encourages physical exercise, follows important health guidelines and draws community members together in a festive manner.

Race participation is open to the general public, and those who registered for the original race are eligible to win some awards. Runners and walkers may complete their distance any time between May 5th and 16th from any location or a treadmill. Harbin Clinic and Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation urges all participants to practice safe social distancing and adhere to the public health guidelines as they exercise.

RFPR requests that all runners and walkers competing for an award to make use of a fitness app or tracker to chart distance and time. Upon completion of the distance, competitors will need to capture a photo of the time and distance on the device, as well as a photo of themselves before, during or after the run or walk. Submissions should include name, age, gender, and run time, and be sent via email to [email protected] by 2 pm on Saturday, May 16th in order to be eligible for an award.

Participants who don’t plan to compete for an award are invited to share their completed time and photos (while donning their 2020 race shirt or in their St. Patrick’s Day attire) to receive a finisher’s certificate.

Overall winners and age group winners will posted online at www.rfpra.com; winners will also be contacted via email and given information on when and where to obtain awards.

Additional information about the virtual race is available via the FAQ that is featured on the parks and rec website.
