FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIR SCOTTY HANCOCK LOOKS FORWARD TO RESUMING IN-PERSON MEETINGS

Scotty Hancock, the Chairman of the Floyd County Commission, hopes that Commissioners will meet again in person soon.

The Zoom app has been a safe and convenient way to gather in these days of coronavirus; however, Hancock says that he prefers to meet face-to-face. It is very likely that Commissioners’ May 26th meeting will be conducted virtually, although in-person meetings will resume in the not-too-distant future.

Commissioners are currently awaiting the latest numbers pertaining to sales tax collection in Floyd County. Collections in March were up slightly, in spite of the coronavirus. If numbers for April are down, Commissioners may have to revise the county’s budget.

Hancock says that he agrees with Governor Brian Kemp’s decision to re-open Georgia’s economy, although this re-opening occurred a lot sooner than many had anticipated it would. Hancock asserts that the lives – and livelihoods – of Georgians are at stake.

The coronavirus outbreak is changing the way that all Georgians do business, adds Hancock, who admits that he misses the days of handshaking.

Commissioners continue to encourage the public’s participation in all regular meetings, whether they are held virtually or in person. Updates are posted on the Floyd County, GA – Government page on Facebook.

Rome City Commissioners gathered virtually on Monday night. The meeting went live and may still be viewed on Facebook; search for City of Rome, GA – Government.
