NEARLY 45,000 HAVE BEEN INFECTED WITH CORONAVIRUS IN GEORGIA; KEMP TO GIVE UPDATE THIS AFTERNOON

Close to 45,000 have been infected with the coronavirus while the death toll nears 2,000 in Georgia, per the state Department of Public Health.

According to the latest report by the DPH, there were 44,638 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state as of 7 pm on Wednesday evening. There were 1,933 deaths related to the virus. In Floyd County, there were 253 confirmed cases and 15 fatalities. Fulton County led the Peach State in confirmed cases with 4,309 and fatalities with 214.

Governor Brian Kemp will update Georgians on COVID-19 this afternoon at the State Capitol down in Atlanta. He will be joined by DPH Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey, Georgia Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency Director Homer Bryson, and the Georgia National Guard’s Adjutant General Tom Carden. This briefing will be live streamed via the Governor’s Facebook page; it is scheduled for 4 pm.
