ROME-FLOYD FIRE DEPARTMENT: LEAVE FIREWORKS UP TO THE PROFESSIONALS ON JULY 4TH!

The 4th of July is rapidly approaching. Here are some words of advice for the holiday from the Rome-Floyd County Department – leave the fireworks up to the professionals!

Linda Patty, Life and Fire Safety Educator, urges all Rome and Floyd County residents to enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend by viewing fireworks from professionals and refraining from displays at home.

If you must conduct a fireworks display of your own, remember to keep a fire extinguisher and/or water hose handy. Be mindful of your neighbors and any pets that may be fearful of fireworks.

Even sparklers, which are often considered harmless enough for children, can burn as hot as 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Corporal Don Bullard, who is also a Life and Fire Safety Educator at the RFD, suggests glow sticks as alternatives to sparklers for youngsters.

According to Georgia law, fireworks may be used during these times:

  • Any day from 10 am until 9 pm.
  • Any day from 9 pm until 11:59 pm, if allowed by county noise ordinance or permit.
  • On January 1st, July 3rd, July 4th and December 1st from 9 am until 11:59 pm.
  • On January 1st from midnight to 1 am.

Again, the best way to stay safe is to enjoy a fireworks show by professionals on the 4th of July. The 2020 Fireworks Extravaganza will be hosted by Rome- Floyd Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Redmond Regional Medical Center, on Saturday night; the display will begin shortly after dark from atop Jackson Hill and will be visible throughout Rome.
