FIREWORKS IN ROME, PARADE IN CAVE SPRING SET FOR THE 4TH OF JULY

There will be plenty of great locations around Rome from which to view the 2020 Fireworks Extravaganza that will be hosted this Saturday night, July 4th by Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation in partnership with Redmond Regional Medical Center.

This year’s fireworks display will be shot from the top of Jackson Hill, which means it will be visible from quite a few places around Rome due to a higher elevation. Jim Alred, RFPR’s Recreation Services Manager, recommends that Romans watch the display from the levee, on Broad Street or from pedestrian bridges located downtown. The parking lot of the Rome Civic Center and the trails along Jackson Hill will be closed.

The fireworks will not be accompanied by the Patriotic Party in the Park this year due concerns over COVID-19. The park will close to vehicular traffic at noon on Saturday.

Be sure to use public lots to view the fireworks; refrain from using lots which are intended for local businesses near Jackson Hill. And please do not stop in the middle of the road to check out the display, says Alred.

The Rome Braves will offer a socially-distanced location from which to view the fireworks in the parking lots around State Mutual Stadium at a cost of $10 per carload. For details, visit www.romebraves.com.

The 2020 Fireworks Extravaganza will start after sundown on Saturday night, sometime between 9:30 pm and 9:45 pm.

The festivities in Floyd County this Saturday will also include the 35th annual Cave Spring Fourth of July Parade. Participants should line up from 8 am to 8:45 am. Wheeled vehicles will line up on Perry Farm Road, and the walkers will gather over at Joe Hill’s Lawnmower Shop at the Old Depot on Alabama Street. The parade will begin at 9 am. Spectators can watch the parade from the Town Square and on Alabama Street. Everyone should follow the CDC’s guidelines and social distancing.
