There has yet to be a Downtown Saturdays event in 2020, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The second event in the series that had been slated for the 4th of July has been cancelled. However, downtown Rome will be a prime viewing spot for the fireworks display by Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation which is still on for that night. Megan Otwell, Director of Public Relations for Rome’s Downtown Development Authority, hopes that all Independence Day revelers in the area will support local restaurants and small businesses.
Downtown Saturdays are financially supported by the downtown BID (or the Business Improvement District). As of this time, the August and September events will take place as planned on the first Saturday of each month. A final determination will be made in the coming weeks, according to Otwell.
Country music artist Hunter Chastain is slated to perform at the August event, while the popular duo Kindred Fire will headline the September event (if that actually happens).
Businesses in downtown Rome have been adapting to a ‘new normal’ in these days of coronavirus, indicates Otwell.
