NWGA PUBLIC HEALTH CONTINUES TO ENCOURAGE VIGILANCE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS

The number of COVID-19-related fatalities have remained stable at 15 in the last two months for Floyd County. However, confirmed cases of the virus are on the rise.

Logan Boss, Public Information Officer for the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Northwest Health District, states that community transmission of the virus continues locally; therefore, residents must remain vigilant and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and others.

Boss acknowledges that public health and government officials may not have always been clear as to the effectiveness of cloth masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus, creating an environment of confusion and mistrust. While the cloth masks are not 100 percent effective in preventing the wearer and others from exposure to the virus, states Boss, they do help to stem the transmission of it.

Coronavirus testing is offered each Monday through Friday at the West Rome Baptist Church, 914 Shorter Avenue, on a first-come, first-served basis from 9 am until supplies run out. Saturday testing will depend on test availability, according to Boss.
