Floyd County Commissioners gathered in regular session on Tuesday night; among the items on their agenda – masks.
Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to recommend the use of face coverings in Floyd County, along with other measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, like social distancing and handwashing. A mask mandate was not issued.
Chairman Scotty Hancock urges all people in Floyd County to wear a mask, especially in situations where social distancing is not possible.
Commissioner Allison Watters says that while many people think that county officials are not doing enough, she believes that community engagement and leadership by example will result in increased mask usage.
Funds have been authorized for a marketing campaign to educate the public on the importance of wearing masks, social distancing and hand washing to prevent community spread of COVID-19.
