LOCALS HITTING THE WATER TO BEAT THE HEAT AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING

Many people have been hitting local rivers in recent weeks as a way to beat the summer heat and practice safe social distancing.

The slate of paddle trips that had been scheduled for 2020 by the Coosa River Basin Initiative was called off due to coronavirus concerns. However, a meet up paddle took place last month with more planned for late summer and early fall, according to Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman, Executive Director, who adds that it’s pretty easy to be socially distant on the water.

The CRBI has resumed its bacterial monitoring of local waterways to ensure that conditions are safe for paddlers, swimmers, etc. Demonbreun-Chapman attests that those conditions have been good so far this summer for the influx of people that have been hitting the water.

Results of this bacterial monitoring are posted on the CRBI’s website, which is www.coosa.org, as well as on Facebook and in the Rome News-Tribune.
