SUSPECTS IN FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOLS’ RICO CASE ENTER GUILTY PLEAS

Suspects in the RICO investigation involving Floyd County Schools entered guilty pleas in superior court on Monday. These individuals were accused of stealing millions of dollars from the school system. The guilty pleas followed a nearly six-year investigation.

Derry Richardson, the former maintenance director, has been sentenced to 40 years, 20 in prison with the remainder on probation. He will also have to pay restitution. Eight other defendants entered negotiated pleas.

Leigh Patterson, Floyd County’s District Attorney, asserted in a statement that almost all of the $6 million in stolen funds have been recovered.
