BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE AT PHILLY

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 13-8 on Monday evening in the finale of a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, which resulted in an even 2-2 split in the series.

It was a tough night on the mound for Sean Newcomb, who surrendered eight runs and six hits, walked two and struck out one in one and one-third innings. Following the outing, he was optioned to the Braves’ alternate training site at Gwinnett.

Philadelphia notched a total of five home runs to include a three-run bomb by Bryce Harper in the bottom of the first and a grand slam by Didi Gregorius in the second.

Atlanta staged a comeback with seven runs in the top of the ninth, including a solo home run by Johan Camargo and a two run shot from Austin Riley. Nick Markakis also notched his 500th career double in that inning.

Those efforts were not enough for the Braves to overcome the Phillies, who won the game, again, by a final score of 13-8.

The Braves will be in New York tonight for the first of two interleague games against the Yankees. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. That game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm.
