The August 11th primary run-off election is on the books. Dave Roberson has won his bid to become Floyd County’s next Sheriff, while Marjorie Greene is the Republican party’s nominee in the 14th Congressional District race.
Roberson beat Tom Caldwell in the race to be Tim Burkhalter’s successor as Floyd County Sheriff. Roberson received 64 percent of the votes cast, while Caldwell had 36 percent.
Greene beat Dr. John Cowan districtwide in the GOP race for Congress by a vote of 57 percent to 43 percent. Dr. Cowan, however, won Floyd County, his home county, by 58 percent to 42 percent. Greene will proceed to the general election in November against Democratic nominee Kevin Van Ausdal.
Polls around Floyd County remained open through 9 pm on Tuesday evening. A number of voters encountered some technical glitches with the new voting machines, asserts Dr. Melanie Conrad, member of the Board of Elections and Registration. The extended hours gave them more time to vote.
When it is time for voters to return to the polls this fall, Dr. Conrad says that elections officials will be prepared.
Complete results from Tuesday’s election are posted on the Georgia Secretary of State website at www.sos.ga.gov.
